THE WALLS by Sergio Assad feat. Yo-Yo Ma
This is huge! The Walls is one of the biggest and most challenging projects I've ever had the privilege to work on.
It features a gorgeous composition in five movements by Sergio Assad, an extraordinary, sensitive performance by the one and only Yo-Yo Ma on cello, 60 of the world's most recognized classical guitarists and Clarice Assad on bass.
My goal with this project has been to really push the limits of the virtual ensemble art form. Is it possible to assemble home recorded videos into something that sounds like it was recorded in a studio and looks fresh and visually attractive, even after so many virtual videos have been published since the start of the pandemic? Well, of course this is up to the audience to decide, but thanks to the huge effort from every musician involved to create the best possible performance video, I think the vision was realized.
The Walls took quite a few months to complete, a lot of attention has been given to the balance of sound so that every element of this composition comes to life. Additionally, countless sequences were designed and animated from scratch to help the story come across - a message of hope and friendship in the uncertain times we're living in.
Thanks so much to Sergio, Yo-Yo Ma, Clarice Assad and all the 60 guitarists:
